JMD design were engaged by the City of Sydney to design a new playground in the 19th Century Victoria Park at Chippendale.
The location of the new playground within the historic park was chosen to ensure that the spatial character and integrity of the 19th Century design were maintained. With a combination of static play elements, embankment play and nature play the new playground provides a variety of play options for children from a range of ages. Integrated within the Brush Box avenue, the playground is shaded and confined to the edge of the important open spaces within the overall park. This location ensured that the introduction of a low fence to the toddler play area, additional shade structures, seating, play equipment and new plantings maintianed the distinctive rythm of space and enclosure in the park.
